Cody and Christy Kerr

Cody started dancing in 2009 after a long time waiting to pursue swing dancing because he thought he needed a dance partner. After discovering that he could take lessons without a partner, the dance pursuit began. Upon his initial exposure to swing dancing he discovered Lindy Hop then Charleston and then Balboa. Over time he has dabbled in some other dance forms but has always passionately maintained his love for the original vintage swing dances, which remain his primary focus.
Christy started trying out various dance styles in Anchorage, Alaska in 2004. Her life was changed when she saw a couple dancing Lindy Hop. Upon seeing Lindy's famous "swivels," she pointed at the couple and said, "I want to learn THAT!" It didn't take long for her to fall in love with the dance. In the years that followed in Alaska, she coordinated classes, hosted a monthly swing dance, and started a performance team. Christy moved to Kentucky to go back to school in 2009, and she met her future husband, Cody, at a swing dance in 2010.
Since their first swing out together, Cody and Christy have competed on the HepCats swing dance performance and competition team in Lexington, KY. This troop of swingin' cats performed and competed in events throughout the mid-west and also competed at a national event two years in a row, taking 2nd place in both years.
Cody and Christy were married in 2012 and became dance partners for life. Their love for dancing has led them to dance at events throughout the United States, Spain, and New Zealand. They moved to Spokane, WA in 2014 and were encouraged by the local swing scene to start teaching lessons. So Strictly Swing Spokane was born. Cody and Christy love dancing together and sharing their joy for the dance with friends and strangers alike. They are excited to share their passion for swing dancing with this community and hope to see YOU on the dance floor!
